Our Review: 9/10
I work as a house painter and handyman. Generally I avoid wallpaper removal, but every now and again I find myself in a situation where it has to be done. One such a situation came up recently, and I went out and rented an Earlex Wallpaper steamer, same as I’ve done before any other time. The job kind of got bigger than we had expected (removing wallpaper to find MORE wallpaper behind it! Ugh!) and so one of my helpers brought his McCulloch MC1275 into the jobsite to help out.
Holy cow, the difference.
The McCulloch has a smaller reservoir for water, but it is not constant-on, like the Earlex is. Also it heats up to readiness in about 8 minutes, rather than 45 for the Earlex. Additionally, the steam comes out at a higher volume than the Earlex. Pretty much on any measurement axis, the McCulloch is superior.
Now I know, you’re probably scratching your head why I would be posting a wallpaper steamer review for something that is technically not a wallpaper steamer.
So here’s the kicker. Over the weekend returned the Earlex Piece of Crap Steamer (TM) to HD and Primed myself a McCulloch MC1275. On monday we had TWO of these bad boys running, and the wallpaper came down like rain! When the job was done, I cleaned up this little beauty and took it home to my wife, who promptly spent the entire night steam cleaning everything in sight.
Literally, she did a dance when reading the instruction manual and found out everything she could sterilize with it.
We have polished concrete floors throughout our home, and this beast sterilizes and shines them up beautifully. We’re very pleased with the microfiber covers, and there’s approximately 64 billion attachments to go with it for various and sundry applications such as sanitizing fine china and degreasing the engine on your 1972 Cadillac Bonneville.
And it’s worth noting, the manual says it can hold 48oz of water, MAX. I have definitely put 64oz into it with no issues whatsoever.
Only “con” I’ve come across so far is that if you pull it fast enough, the “hubcaps” come off the back wheels. So…don’t go drag racing your McCulloch MC1275, as you may regret it.
